Stories from the Bunkhouse is the award-winning companion series to Yellowstone.
If Yellowstone is a big ol’ juicy steak - or an animal-friendly Impossible Burger - then Bunkhouse is the can of beans you serve on the side (that sometimes steals the show).
The Problem
Taylor Sheridan is famously resistant to the commercial side of his work. We had very little access to scripts, minimal involvement from his team, and most approvals came day-of. We were building a companion series for the biggest show on television flying blind, without the safety net of creator collaboration most productions get.
The Approach
Over three months, I reverse-engineered the storytelling. I studied previous seasons for tonal patterns and narrative structure. I designed cast interviews that drew out authentic character insights without requiring plot spoilers. I built content frameworks flexible enough to hold up when we got notes at the last minute… or got no feedback at all. And when we finally landed on set, I rewrote in real time, adapting to whatever access and information the day allowed.
The Payoff
The fifth season of Stories from the Bunkhouse became the most-watched in the series' history, drawing over 23.4 million cross-platform views. It was shortlisted for a 2023 Clio Award and helped support Yellowstone's highest-rated season to date. Even Taylor Sheridan and his team loved the finished work.
